New research names the TV game shows that Washington state loves the most, with Jeopardy! coming out on top. The study, conducted by sweepstake comparison site Casinos Sweeps, analyzed nationwide and regional Google searches relating to TV game shows, to identify which ones are the most popular.
Casinos Sweeps looked at the number of monthly searches across Washington state for the following three search variations to find the most love game shows using the syntax ‘watch [show],’ ‘stream [show] and ‘[show] episodes’.
Commenting on the findings, a Casinos Sweeps spokesperson says: “It’s interesting to see the game shows that rank in the top ten are ones that have been airing for years and years, rather than any newer TV series – with the exception of The Floor.
“It is likely because part of the reason people watch shows such as The Price Is Rightand Deal or No Deal is because of the nostalgia, with fond memories of them playing on TV when they were younger.
“This perhaps explains why Jeopardy! takes the crown as the most popular game show in the most states, having entered its 40th season since it was broadcast in 1984, with other versions dating back even further than this.”
Below are Washington’s top ten most popular TV game shows according to their findings:
1. Jeopardy!
Jeopardy! is the top pick for game shows in Washington, with an average of 229 monthly searches.
This game show switches the traditional question-and-answer format around, offering contestants the answers as clues to the questions that they must correctly guess.
Jeopardy! was also found to be the most popular game show in 42 out of 50 states, and the second most popular in six states.
2. Family Feud
The runner-up is Family Feud at 114 average monthly searches.
In this game show, two families go head-to-head, and attempt to correctly guess the most common answers to questions from a survey of 100 people.
Family Feud was the most popular in seven states and the second most popular game show in 18 states.
3. American Ninja Warrior
The third is American Ninja Warrior with 96 average monthly searches.
The show sees athletes attempt to complete an extremely challenging obstacle course, in hopes of reaching Mount Midoriyama – with only a few having ever succeeded.
4. Celebrity Family Feud
Celebrity Family Feud ranks fourth among the most popular game shows, with 77 average monthly searches.
Celebrity Family Feud works in a similar way to the regular format, except it features celebrities and their relatives, hoping to score a cash prize for charity of their choice.
5. The Floor
Rounding out the top five is The Floor,with 69 average monthly searches.
The game show kicks off with 81 contestants standing on a square in a large grid. Contestants are then pitted against each other in pairs, with the winner claiming the other one’s space on the floor as theirs. Whoever manages to occupy the entire floor brings home the prize money.
6. Wheel of Fortune
In sixth is Wheel of Fortune at 59 average monthly searches.
In this game show, contestants are tasked with guessing the letters included in the puzzles and spinning the wheel to reveal how much a correct answer wins them.
7. The Price Is Right
The Price Is Right ranks seventh, with an average of 47 monthly searches.
Participants on the show must respond with the correct retail price of the merchandise shown to score both cash and prizes.
8. Deal or No Deal
In eighth is Deal or No Deal at 46 average monthly searches.
The game show kicks off with 81 contestants standing on a square in a large grid. Contestants are then pitted against each other in pairs, with the winner claiming the other one’s space on the floor as theirs. Whoever manages to occupy the entire floor brings home the prize money.
9. Celebrity Jeopardy! and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
In joint ninth are Celebrity Jeopardy! and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? with 42 average monthly searches.
The celebrity version of Jeopardy! follows a similar structure, except the prize money is donated to a charity.
In Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? contestants attempt to correctly answer increasingly challenging multiple-choice general knowledge questions.
10. Wipeout
The final spot in the top ten is claimed by Wipeout, with 37 average monthly searches.
Contestants must complete a series of obstacle courses to be the last one standing and take home the $50,000 prize.
