Reader Opinion: Vote Nick Brown for Attorney General

I’m a mother of two young adult sons, retired Navy, active community member and volunteer. The purpose of my letter is to share why I’m voting for Nick Brown for Attorney General this election.

I met Nick several years ago at a conference in Spokane where he was the keynote speaker. The conference was running really behind schedule and I apologized to him. Nick said he understood and waited patiently for his time to speak, working quietly as he waited.

Raised in Steilacoom, Washington, Nick has a long career of public and government service that started in college as an ROTC scholarship student, an Army defense attorney, federal prosecutor, General Counsel to the Governor and US Attorney for Western Washington. The latter an appointment by the President of the United States.

I’m voting for Nick because he’s the only candidate for Attorney General who has the experience and leadership to successfully advocate for all Washingtonians and protect our rights and liberties, this includes our rights to privacy and reproductive health services.

Pete Serrano, his opponent’s public service experience is city council member of Pasco and current mayor of Pasco, elected by fellow city council members.

I’m also voting for Nick because he believes there should be appropriate consequences and punishment for committing crimes, but he also believes that attempting to get to the source of why some people commit crimes, such as mental illnesses and substance abuse/addiction, and providing treatment is important as well. Nick knows, as we do, that families and communities are affected on both sides when crime and punishment occur.

Nick will focus on the people of Washington and protecting us, and not just punishment. His record shows this. That’s the kind of Attorney General ALL Washingtonians deserve.

Sincerely,
Keashia Garner
