Ben Wolters confirmed as next Director of Development and Business Services

LYNNWOOD—Ben Wolters was confirmed by the Lynnwood City Council on Monday, July 14, to lead the Development and Business Services (DBS) Department as its next Director. Wolters is to assume the role of Director. and is taking over this role from David Kleitsch who will retired after nearly 25 years of service to the City of Lynnwood this fall.

“I’m thrilled for the opportunity to lead Development and Business Services, building on our team’s strong foundation to address new challenges and continue collaborating with our community to advance Lynnwood’s vision of becoming a regional model for sustainability and vibrancy,” said Wolters.

Wolters is a seasoned community development leader in the Puget Sound region, having served in executive and managerial roles with the Cities of Lynnwood, Kent, Renton, and Seattle to build strong, healthy, and inclusive communities. He currently serves as the Economic Development Manager for the City of Lynnwood and was instrumental in the formation of Lynnwood’s Development and Business Services Department and the Economic Development division, leading the redevelopment of Lynnwood City Center, renewing the City’s tourism and business marketing, and building a small business support program through partnerships. 

The DBS department is comprised of the functions of Community Development, Economic Development, Public Works Development Engineering, and the Fire Marshal’s Office (South Snohomish County Fire and Rescue).

“Ben brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and leadership to this vital role,” said City of Lynnwood Mayor Christine Frizzell. “With the expansive growth and the shifting landscape of our thriving community, we are glad to have leaders like Ben, who has a deep understanding of our organization, its goals, and the communities we serve, to lead and guide our work.” 

Wolters has also served as a volunteer in the region with the Housing Development Consortium, Seattle Jobs Initiative, Center for Advanced Manufacturing Puget Sound, and the Urban Land Institute’s Technical Assistance Panel program. He is a graduate of Oregon State University and holds a master’s degree in international economics from the University of Denver. He is certified as an Economic Development Finance Professional by the National Development Council (Grow America) and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Wolters enjoys the Northwest outdoors with his family as an avid skier and as a parent volunteer supporting the Mountaineers Adventure Club.
