Apple expands its $600 billion American Manufacturing Program to Kentucky

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Apple announced on Wednesday, August 6, a $600 billion investment in the United States over the next four years, with $2.5 billion earmarked for a state-of-the-art smart glass production line in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.

Apple CEO Tim Cook’s announcement in the Oval Office of the White House, is an expansion of $100 billion from a previous $500 billion pledge, as part of the company’s newly launched American Manufacturing Program (AMP) that aims to enhance domestic manufacturing of the company’s supply chain for iPhone, driven by a mix of tariff pressures and a desire to bolster domestic innovation.

“Thank you very much for having me here today. You’ve been a great advocate for American innovation and manufacturing. I’m grateful for your leadership and your commitment,” Cook said to President Donald J Trump.

Cook also presented a glass plaque with a 24-karat gold base to President Trump.

“The golden age is here,” Trump said, adding, “These investments will directly create more than 20,000 brand new American jobs—and many thousands more at the Apple suppliers. Apple will massively increase spending on its domestic supply chain for the iPhone, and will build the largest and most sophisticated smart glass production line in the world in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.”

The Kentucky project, alongside expansions in states like Texas and Arizona, is expected to generate over 20,000 direct jobs, with thousands of additional jobs throughout supply chains.

Apple is currently establishing a 250,000-square-foot AI server manufacturing facility in Houston, that is set to open in 2026; and in Sherman, Texas, Apple is partnering with GlobalWafers America to produce advanced 300mm wafers for U.S.-based semiconductor fabrication.

In Arizona, Apple is investing in Amkor’s new advanced chip packaging and test facility.

Both the Texas and Arizona expansions are directly tied to CHIPS & Science Act incentives that allocates approximately $280 billion to strengthen U.S. semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing.
