WASHINGTON—Acting United States Attorney for the District of Vermont, Michael Drescher, has filed a notice of intent to seek the death penalty against Teresa “Milo” Youngblut, 21, of Seattle, for the murder of Border Patrol agent David Maland, the assault of two additional agents with a deadly weapon, and related firearms offenses.

“The United States Attorney’s Office intends to continue to honor the men and women of law enforcement, and the memory of Border Patrol Agent Maland, by performing its prosecutorial duties so that justice may be done,” said Drescher.
Youngblut initially faced federal firearm charges but on Thursday, August 14, a federal grand jury in the District of Vermont returned a four-count superseding indictment.
“As alleged, this defendant shot and killed a United States Border Patrol Agent while he was performing his duties,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Matthew R. Galeotti of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “We will not stand for such attacks on the men and women who protect our communities and our borders.”
Youngblut, who is a biological female, goes by the name “Milo” and does not identify as male nor female. Authorities have linked Youngblut to a trans terror cult called “The Ziz” or “Zizians” this is linked to at least eight deaths in multiple states. The trans woman leader of the cult is named Jack “Ziz” LaSota, 34, of Berkeley, California, who faked her own death and uses “rationalist ideology as a reason to commit violence.”

LaSota was arrested in February and is facing multiple charges including trespassing, obstructing and hindering and possession of a handgun in the vehicle. LaSota was also a fugitive wanted on multiple illegal firearm charges by the DOJ.
The trans terror cult members are said to be “highly intelligent computer scientists, most of them in their 20s and 30s, met online, shared anarchist beliefs” and shared violent radical views on “veganism and gender identity to artificial intelligence,” an Associated Press investigation uncovered.
According to court documents, on the afternoon of January 20, 2025, U.S. Border Patrol agent David Maland conducted a traffic stop of a Toyota Prius on Interstate 91 in Coventry, Vermont. Youngblut and a male German national named Felix “Ophelia” Bauckholt – whose immigration status was in question – were in the car. Bauckholt, a biological male, identified as trans and used she/her pronouns.

Days earlier, law enforcement had taken note of Youngblut and Bauckholt when a hotel employee reported that they were wearing tactical gear and appeared to be armed. The same day of the shooting, officers had observed the pair at a parking lot in Newport, Vermont, where Bauckholt was seen wrapping unknown objects in aluminum foil.
Court documents allege that during the January 20 vehicle stop, both Youngblut and Bauckholt were armed. Youngblut exited the vehicle and, without warning, opened fire, resulting in the death of U.S. Border Patrol agent Maland. Border agents returned fire, killing Bauckholt.
Youngblut was a University of Washington student who attended Lakeside School, an upscale private school in Seattle where 2025-2026 school year tuition is $49,350, according to the school’s website. King5 reports that Youngblut filed for a marriage license in King County in November 2024.
The FBI Albany Field Office investigated the case, with substantial assistance from the Vermont State Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in coordination with Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Border Patrol, the Newport Police Department, and the Orleans County Sheriff’s Department.
Trial Attorneys Lisa M. Thelwell and Dennis Robinson of the Criminal Division’s Violent Crime and Racketeering Section (VCRS) and Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Lasher for the District of Vermont are prosecuting the case.
