Snohomish County to celebrate completion of Corridor Project with Ribbon Cutting Event

EVERETT – Drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians will soon be able to move more freely from 164th St SW to SR 99 north of Lynnwood with the completion of the 36th/35th Avenues W corridor improvement project.

Many Snohomish County residents use the critical north-south corridor as a route to SR 99 and commercial centers in in north Lynnwood. Prior to construction, the corridor featured one lane in each direction and would routinely see traffic back-ups from vehicles waiting to make left turns into one of the many neighborhoods, businesses or multi-family complexes. There were also stretches of roadway without sidewalks, resulting in people walking on concrete or dirt shoulders.

Construction activities included building sidewalks, curbs, gutters, bike lanes and a retention pond, replacing aging stormwater systems, and paving the corridor from 164th St SW to SR 99. The corridor improvements were designed to reduce travel delays from left-turning traffic, increase mobility for pedestrians and cyclists, and improve stormwater drainage.

The Snohomish County Public Works project connects at the south with a previously-completed Lynnwood Public Works corridor improvement project on 36th Ave W, from 179th St SW to 165th Pl SW, allowing for more than two miles of continuous sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and center turn lanes.

The $11.7 million construction project took about 18 months, with work starting on the east side of the road and then shifting to the west while vehicles continued to travel along the corridor on the side of the road not under construction. The project was funded by the federal Surface Transportation Program, the Washington State Transportation Improvement Board, the Washington State Public Works Trust Fund, Alderwood Water and Wastewater District, developer mitigation fees and the Snohomish County Road Fund. Onsite construction was completed by Marshbank Construction.

The community is invited to celebrate the improvements to the corridor at a public ribbon cutting event on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m. The event will feature a short ceremony and informational displays about the project. Public Works staff will be joined by county and state dignitaries, project partners, and community members.

Ribbon cutting ceremony:

  • When: Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025
  • Time: 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Where: 14807 SR 99, Lynnwood, WA (southwest corner of 35th Ave W and 148th St SW)
  • Parking: Limited parking is available at event site; street parking available in nearby neighborhoods
