Sultan celebrates opening of the new Mountain View Park

SULTAN—The City of Sultan celebrated the newest addition to its parks and trails system with a ribbon-cutting for Mountain View Park on Wednesday, September 24. A soft opening of the park occurred on March 1.

“This park reflects the values of the City by creating shared spaces that bring people together, promote outdoor recreation, and bringing us closer to nature,” said Sultan Mayor Russell Wiita during the ceremony. “Thank you so much to our representatives at the county and state level for sharing in our vision and investing in the communities we serve.”

Located at 14027 Dogwood Court (off 138th St SE, east side of Sultan Basin Road), Mountain View Park is the first city park in the Sultan Basin area. The new 4-acre park features a playground, basketball court, hill climb, and walking trail, along with new bathrooms and a parking lot.

The park is nestled near a single-family residential area that was underserved by public facilities. It offers a safe, welcoming space for residents of all ages to gather and enjoy the outdoors.

“County partnerships on parks with cities like Sultan have been a huge success during my time on the County Council,” Snohomish County Councilman Sam Low, represents Sultan, told the Lynnwood Times. “Pulling up to the ribbon cutting and seeing kids using this park and having fun was exciting to see!

In 2020, the City of Sultan’s Parks, Recreation, and Open Space (PROS) plan was updated to reflect the need for additional park space at the east end of Marguerite Lane. Public outreach included specific questions about the park amenities to capture what residents desired in the Sultan Basin Road area.

On July 13, 2023, the City of Sultan passed a resolution officially naming the city-owned parcel, Mountain View Park.

Following its soft opening on March 1, 2025, temporary fencing around the park was removed on May 28, marking the park’s official full opening. The fencing was placed to allow the new landscaping to establish on the log climb hill and around the scenic walkway.

Mountain View Park was made possible through a combination of state legislative appropriations, two Snohomish County grants, and local park impact fees.

  1. Originally this park was to be funded by developers. Now it’s been taxpayer funded and the developers benefited. Sultan has a history of ‘deals’ that benefit the developers and add cost increases and burdens to the residents. Don’t even think of moving here – you will be stuck in traffic !
