MARYSVILLE—The Marysville Police Department proudly welcomed two new K-9 officers during a swearing-in ceremony held on Monday, Dec. 8, led by Mayor Jon Nehring and Police Chief Erik Scairpon. K-9 Officers Kona and Charlie were officially sworn in, marking the beginning of a new chapter in service and community protection.

Chief Scairpon addressed attendees, reflecting on the honor and responsibility of wearing the badge and reaffirming the department’s commitment to public safety highlighting the hard work and dedication of the K-9 team. In early November, the teams achieved Washington State Police Canine Association certification, standards that exceed regulations required by state law.

K-9 Kona is a 15-month-old Belgian Malinois from the Netherlands. He is partnered with Officer TJ San Miguel, an 18-year law enforcement veteran who previously handled Police Dog Pele with the Seattle Police Department. He enjoys learning new skills, greeting fellow officers and chewing on deer antlers. The team is eager to serve the Marysville community.

K-9 Charlie is a 23-month-old German Shepherd born in Uedem, Germany, on Jan. 1, 2024. After a brief time in Canada, he was selected to join the Marysville Police Department and has been paired with Officer Calen Roberts since August. K-9 Charlie loves prancing around his property with a toy in his mouth, playing fetch with his Kong and mastering new training exercises.
Their specialized training and strong partnerships with their handlers will enhance public safety and reinforce the values of the Marysville Police Department. The city of Marysville invites the community to join in congratulating K-9 Kona and K-9 Charlie and their handlers as they begin their service.
