Republicans are in panic mode as initiative deadline approaches

The deadline to turn in three statewide initiatives is January 2, 2026, has left Republican organizers and officials scrambling to get the word out to residents to turn in signature sheets “NOW! Don’t wait! Get them in ASAP!”

Let’s Go Washington, the primary sponsor for initiatives’ IL26-001, aimed at strengthening communication between parents and schools, and IL26-638, intended to protect fairness in girls’ sports by addressing biological males in women’s competitions and facilities, is optimistic.

“365,000 [signatures] for girls sports and 335,000 for parents [bill of rights] but these will likely go up 15,000 to 20,000 on Tuesday,” Brian Heywood wrote in a message on X to the Lynnwood Times.

Initiative Measure IL26-126, sponsored by the Washington State Republican Party, to require voter ID and proof of citizenship to vote, replacing the current “honor system” where applicants simply check a box affirming citizenship on the registration form, is going to be a nail-biting finish.

Scott Presler, the unstoppable force behind Donald J Trump’s 2024 landslide victories in battleground states, is sounding the alarm: “Not enough people are turning in their petitions….Now WE need to act. If you have petitions, get them back ASAP. Mail is OK through this weekend. After that, drop them off at regional locations for “pony express” delivery.”

The Washington State GOP is urging residents to “Drop off your initiatives ASAP.”

A total of 309,000 signatures are needed for each initiative to qualify for it to be accepted by the Secretary of State’s Office no later than January 2, 2026. Time is needed for tabulating signatures, and preparing sheets and boxes for ballot submittal; so, Let’s Go Washington and the WAGOP need your petition sheets now.

Over the last few months of signature gathering, volunteers have been attacked and one threated with death simply for carrying out a civic duty to participate in the democratic process.

“The media will paint it as a failure, it’ll be harder for the next initiative & we’ll have given a gift to Democrats,” Conservative talk radio host Ari Hoffman posted to X.

“The initiatives to restore parents’ rights and save girls sports in WA are close to getting enough signatures, but not quite there yet,” wrote Rep. Travis Couture (R-35) on X. “If you have signatures to send in, sending them by mail might not get there in time. Instead of the mail, the Let’s Go Washington website has drop off locations for signed petitions, and in some circumstances you can reach out and they’ll pick them up for you. Every signature matters, so you need to get them in ASAP, these kids matter!”
