LYNNWOOD—A woman was found dead following a fire at an apartment complex in Lynnwood on Sunday night. South County Firefighters also transported a man to a hospital for smoke inhalation.
South County Firefighters were dispatched just before 11:40 p.m., December 28, to a fire at The Martin at Meadowdale—a two-story apartment complex in the 16000 block of 44th Ave. W. in Lynnwood. The first crews arrived approximately six minutes later to find significant fire conditions with flames spreading from the first to second floor. Firefighters quickly upgraded the response to a two-alarm fire to bring in more resources.
Firefighters located a woman in her 30s deceased on the first floor of the building. A man in his 30s suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to Swedish Hospital in Mill Creek and later released. No other injuries were reported.
More than 70 firefighters responded to the fire including support from Everett Fire, Mukilteo Fire and Bothell Fire. Icy conditions on the roof made fighting the fire challenging.
Eight apartment units were impacted by the fire, leaving 20 people displaced including 10 children—one of whom was an infant. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office with assistance from South County Fire. Support 7 is assisting those displaced from the fire. North County Fire and Tulalip Bay Fire provided coverage while South County Fire units were focused on this response.
South County Fire encourages everyone to check your home’s smoke alarms. Working smoke alarms can save lives by giving you more time to escape a fire. Replaceable batteries in smoke alarms should be changed once each year. Replace all smoke alarms after 10 years.
