Over 1,000 Students Attend EvCC’s 2026 Student Career Conference

EVERETT— More than 1,000 middle and high school students learned about college and career options at Everett Community College’s 21st annual Student Career Conference on March 26.

More than 350 adults made the event a success. More than 70 professionals shared about their college and career experiences, 49 EvCC students moderated panel discussions, dozens of school representatives, chaperones and bus drivers brought students to the conference, and nearly 80 volunteers directed students and served thousands of slices of pizza.

The conference was open to all middle and high school students from Snohomish County and drew some students from beyond Snohomish County.

Students attended the event, hosted by master of ceremonies Greylin James, and watched performances by Quil Ceda Tulalip Elementary School and DJ Rise. They heard a keynote speech by Philip Jacobs, founder of Rebel Firm, which supports leaders and teams through leadership development, racial equity and entrepreneurial mindset building, and more. Jacobs is the creator of Reveal the Elephant, a nationally recognized racial equity and dialogue board game used by organizations to deepen trust, strengthen communication and improve workplace culture.

The event was sponsored by Molina HealthCare, Washington State University Everett and Tulalip Tribes.

First held in 2003, the conference was the idea of former EvCC accounting instructor Bill Reed in response to changing Snohomish County demographics, education trends and the economic impact of earning a college degree. He was joined by local business owner Carlos Veliz and others to help organize the first conference. Both continue to be involved with the conference.

The conference goal is to inspire students by connecting them with professionals who look like them and have navigated similar challenges.

“Over the years, we’ve seen the powerful impact of representation and mentorship in shaping students’ aspirations,” Reed said. “It’s about showing them that their dreams are not only valid but achievable.”

The conference went on hiatus from 2020 to 2022, making this the 21st year. This year, the conference was renamed Student Career Conference, reflecting EvCC’s continued commitment to inclusion and student success while aligning with updated national guidelines.
