Snohomish County Charter Review Commission seeks applicants for District 5 vacancy

EVERETT—The 2026 Snohomish County Charter Review Commission is accepting applications to fill a vacancy in District 5 following the resignation of Chair Brett Gailey on May 7. At the commission’s May 13 meeting, members outlined the process to select his replacement.

District 5 residents interested in serving can apply by submitting a resume and cover letter to Commission Coordinator Peter Condyles at Peter.Condyles@Snoco.org. Applications must be received by Friday, May 22. The commission plans to conduct interviews and select the new member during its May 27 meeting at Mountlake Terrace City Hall.

County Council District 5 includes the cities of Lake Stevens, Snohomish, Monroe, Sultan, Gold Bar, and Index, as well as East Silver Lake, Maltby, Clearview, and surrounding unincorporated areas. To determine if you live in District 5, view the County Council district map here (PDF).

Snohomish County is one of seven charter counties in Washington state. Its Home Rule Charter was adopted by voters in 1980 and has been amended in 1986, 1996, 2006, and 2016.

In the November 2025 General Election, county voters elected a 15-member Charter Review Commission to review the charter and recommend updates to meet the county’s current and future needs. Commission members serve an unpaid one-year term that began January 1, 2026.
