Authorities seek escaped inmate Samuel Evans Kimble

MONROE—The Washington State Department of Corrections and local law enforcement are searching for a minimum-security inmate who escaped from the Monroe Correctional Complex.

Samuel Evans Kimble, DOC No. 439536, escaped from the Minimum Security Unit at 10:53 p.m. Thursday, May 14.

He is serving a 27-month sentence for a Snohomish County conviction of domestic violence court order violation-assault. His earned release date is Jan. 5, 2027.

Staff discovered he was missing during a formal count at 3:30 a.m. Friday. Officials ordered restricted movement to search the grounds, and security footage later confirmed the escape time. Local law enforcement and nearby schools were notified.

Kimble was last seen wearing state-issued gray sweatpants, a khaki jacket and a black do-rag.

Anyone who sees him is asked not to approach and to call 911 or the Department of Corrections at 360-794-2720.

The department said it will review the escape once Kimble is apprehended.


Update – 5/15/2026 – 10:45 a.m.: The Washington Department of Corrections and the Monroe Police Department continue efforts to locate escapee Samuel Kimble. At this time, they do not believe he is in the Monroe area. Law enforcement agencies continue working to safely locate and take him into custody.
