Letter to Editor: Lynnwood Retirement Community Living Made Easy with Community Transit

I moved to a retirement community in Lynnwood in January 2026.  Upon my arrival I quickly discovered that a tremendous asset exists in the Lynnwood/Edmonds area.  Community Transit, a topnotch community bus service, ably serves the area.

During the last year as I investigated where I might settle in the Seattle area, I was drawn to the Lynnwood area.  I wanted easy access to Seattle without living in the city.  Fortunately for me I found Lynnwood AND Community Transit.  On April 17th I went with a Community Transit Trainer from Lynnwood to SeaTac airport entirely on public transport.  It was clean, efficient, and with the transit trainer by my side, stress free.  Once you learn how the system works, it becomes easy to navigate your way from bus to light rail. Scheduling a ride with the Transit Trainer is the way to learn how the system operates.

Lynnwood residents are already catching on to the benefits of light rail.  I have met many Lynnwood folks, young, old, and families with pets, riding the light rail.  Orca Cards provide an easy way to pay for travel and kids under 18 ride for free.  Seniors ride with a reduced fare and they can go to the Ride Store at Lynnwood Light Rail Station and purchase a Senior card.

The Swift Buses, Orange and Blue in my corner of Lynnwood, take you quickly to light rail and thus to Seattle itself. The community transit buses go almost anyplace you want to go in Lynnwood or Edmonds, with the added benefit of a walk through a residential neighborhood to your own home once you exit at the most convenient stop.

Native sons Rick Steves and Ken Jennings have done delightful videos on YouTube endorsing Community Transit. Watch their videos, and then if you still have doubts about your ability to navigate the system, call community transit and arrange for a Transit Trainer.

Community Transit employees are proud of the service they offer, and it is great to meet them all, from drivers, to transit workers at the stations, to the transit trainers.  Give it a try!
