LYNNWOOD—Members of the Quail Park of Lynnwood community, including residents and staff, can be found at the Alderwood-Northpointe Fred Meyer this Sunday, July 26, collecting donations and sharing information on the vital needs of Seattle Children’s Hospital patients.
Shoppers are invited to participate by donating new, pre-purchased items or by selecting from a curated list of high-priority needs provided by the hospital, ranging from infant development toys to art supplies for older children. “At Fred Meyer, we are committed to supporting the communities we serve, and we’re honored to partner with Quail Park of Lynnwood for the second annual ‘Fill the Bus’ toy drive,” said Byranna Crouch, Communications and Public Affairs Manager at Fred Meyer. “This event demonstrates the power of neighbors coming together to make a meaningful difference. We look forward to helping collect toys and comfort items that will bring smiles to children and families at Seattle Children’s Hospital.”
This is the second year Quail Park Lynnwood has hosted a ‘Fill the Bus’ fundraising event. Last year the senior assisted living center raised a total of $50,000 worth of donations, according to Diana Hunt, Hospitality Committee Chair at Quail Park of Lynnwood.
“Our residents and team members are deeply committed to representing the heart of our culture through this project,” said Hunt. “Watching our residents come together to support these children and their families is incredibly moving. We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community in such a meaningful, hands-on way.”
Hunt added that gift cards are also welcome donations.
A dozen Quail Park Lynnwood residents will be joining Hunt (ranging in age from 70 to 93), and her hospitality team, on Sunday to facilitate in their fundraiser. You can find them near their bus, or inside the vestibule of the Lynnwood Fred Meyer.
“Any fundraiser that we have here at Quail Park, the residents really enjoy being able to contribute in whatever way they can. The rest of our fundraisers are in-house. We have a dinner called ‘An Evening of Elegance’, that’s a five-course meal to raise money for Alzheimer’s,” said Hunt. “So far ‘Fill the Bus’ is the only fundraiser, to my knowledge, where we actually go out into our community.”
Hunt told the Lynnwood Times she got involved in organizing the ‘Fill the Bus’ because she’s the type of person who loves to organize and work with people. She encouraged families to bring their children shopping this Sunday to experience the ‘Fill the Bus’ fundraiser because “it’s really rewarding for kids to be a part of the donation process.”
Hunt, 80, has been with Quail Park since 2023, after her husband passed away. She was drawn to the work, she informed the Lynnwood Times, because she “loves people” and loves to “help people.”
“I know they’re in a good place and it’s a great community,” Hunt said of Quail Park.
A designated Quail Park shuttle bus will serve as the collection point from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday located at 2902 164th Street Southwest.
Separate to Sunday’s ‘Fill the Bus’ fundraiser, Quail Park of Lynnwood recently underwent a massive remodel and will be hosting a grand opening party on August 27. The retirement community will also be hosting a fashion show this evening, July 23, to raise money for Alzheimer’s.
