EVERETT—The Washington West African Center (WAWAC) will be hosting its fourth annual Sounds of Africa festival at Garfield Park in Everett this Saturday, August 15, with authentic food, live music, a vibrant fashion show, kids and family friendly activities, resource vendors, and an unforgettable community connection.
The Sounds of Africa Festival (SOAFEST) is a dynamic cultural event celebrating the rich traditions, music, and heritage of Africa. Taking place on Saturday, August 15th, 2026, from 1 PM to 7 PM at Garfield Park in Everett, WA, the festival brings together diverse communities to experience African culture through music, dance, fashion, food, and business.
SOAFEST fosters cultural appreciation, strengthens community ties, and creates economic opportunities for African entrepreneurs and artists. Attendees can enjoy live performances by African musicians and dance groups, such as past performers Pa Omar Jack, Pa Bobo Jobarteh, The Kouyate Arts, Selassie Soldiers, WAWAC BIDEWW Choir, and more. A vibrant fashion show will highlight traditional and modern African styles, while a dance competition will showcase the energy and creativity of African movement.
The festival also offers an opportunity to explore authentic African cuisine from various food vendors, allowing attendees to experience a diverse range of flavors. Local businesses, artists, and community organizations will participate as vendors, selling crafts, clothing, and other goods while providing valuable resources.
