EDMONDS—The Cascade Symphony Orchestra (CSO) opens its 65th anniversary season on Monday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 pm, with Beethoven Seventh: The Apotheosis of the Dance at the Edmonds Center for the Arts (ECA), 410 4th Avenue North, in Edmonds.

Michael Miropolsky, in his 25th anniversary season as Cascade Symphony’s Music Director, notes “For 65 seasons, our orchestra has brought great music, outstanding soloists, and memorable musical experiences to our community. As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we are grateful to the musicians, volunteers, patrons, and audience members whose support has made this journey possible.”
The CSO concert opens with Carl Nielsen’s colorful Oriental Festival March from his Suite Aladdin which Miropolsky describes as “a work bursting with energy, excitement, and orchestral brilliance. We then welcome two exceptional young artists, Joyce Ye and Alexander Vollmer, winners of the Eastside Piano Competition, who will share Frédéric Chopin’s beloved Piano Concerto No. 1, a work filled with elegance, poetry, and youthful passion. The second half of the evening is devoted to one of the towering masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Written during a turbulent period in European history, it remains a powerful testament to the human spirit. Its irresistible rhythms, emotional depth, and triumphant energy continue to inspire audiences more than two centuries after its creation.”

It is the pervasive rhythmic drive of Beethoven’s Seventh that prompted Richard Wagner to describe it as “the apotheosis of the dance.”
A pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m., by KING-FM radio personality Dave Beck, will preview the musical highlights for Beethoven Seventh: The Apotheosis of the Dance.
