South County Fire crews arrived at approximately 2 p.m. While treating the patient, firefighters noticed materials and conditions that raised concerns about the possible presence of explosives. Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputies were summoned to the scene.

A sheriff’s sergeant who responded immediately identified chemicals and chemical precursors commonly associated with the manufacture of explosives. It appeared that explosive devices were being assembled inside the home, according to officials.

The Washington State Patrol Region 2 Interagency Bomb Squad was requested. Bomb technicians deployed a robot to enter the residence, confirming that an active explosives lab was operating there.

A Sheriff’s Office deputy then obtained a search warrant authorized by a judge. Once the warrant was secured, bomb technicians from the Region 2 squad systematically processed the scene and removed all explosives and precursor chemicals from the property. Sheriff’s Office investigators continued processing the residence afterward and collected additional evidence.

Authorities said they do not believe there is any immediate danger to the public. The incident remains an active investigation.

The Region 2 Bomb Squad is a joint team composed of the Washington State Patrol, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, and the Everett Police Department. It handles explosives-related calls across a wide area stretching from the southern boundary of Snohomish County to the Canadian border, and responds in Snohomish, Skagit, Island, Whatcom, and Chelan counties.

Officials have not released further details about the individual who was the subject of the medical call, the specific types of explosives or chemicals recovered, or any potential criminal charges.
