Lynnwood woman shot by estranged husband in stable condition

LYNNWOOD, Wash., April 15, 2022 – A 48-year-old Lynnwood woman was shot by her estranged husband, Friday, April 15, right before he turned the gun to his head – killing himself at the scene.

Snohomish County Sherriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a shooting at Vantage Apartments, a 200-unit complex located in the 12900 block of Mukilteo Speedway, just after midnight this morning. They found a female victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the torso and immediately began rendering first aid.

The woman was transported to Harborview Medical Center and is currently in stable, but critical, condition.

The suspected shooter, a 64-year-old California man identified as the victim’s estranged husband, was unresponsive at the scene.

Positive identification of the decedent, as well as the official cause and manner of death, are expected to be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office at a later date.

The victim arrived home from work just after midnight this morning and, as she was walking to her apartment through the exterior hallway, encountered the suspect who shot her before taking his own life. The firearm was recovered at the scene of the crime by Snohomish County deputies.

The Lynnwood Times reached out to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office as well as Harborview Medical Center but neither could divulge the identity of the female victim at this time.

“It’s still under active investigation and we don’t have any updates at this time,” Courtney O’Keefe, Public Information Officer for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, told the Lynnwood Times.

A resident told the Lynnwood Times that this is generally a safe community.

“There were a lot of police here last night,” the current resident of Vantage Apartments said who would like to remain anonymous. “I like it here and generally feel safe. This is so tragic.”

It is unknown if the assailant travelled from California to Washington state with the intention to commit the murderous domestic assault or was he already living in the state.

Developing story.
