Two volunteer Snohomish County advisory groups seeking new members

SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash., August 21, 2022—Two volunteer Snohomish County advisory groups are seeking new members to further their work to advance effective and responsive government. The Performance Audit Committee supports efficient and transparent government operations, and the Tourism Promotion Area Advisory Board helps bring events and overnight stays to Snohomish County. More information on each group – including how to apply – is available below.

Performance Audit Committee

The Snohomish County Performance Audit Committee (PAC) includes residents nominated by County councilmembers and the County Executive. Currently, positions are available to represent the Executive (at-large positions) and Council districts two, three and four. The PAC advises and reviews department audits by assisting in identifying objectives, ensuring that audit methodology and reporting meet goals by considering any instances of non-compliance, and crafting recommendations for implementing solutions.

Applicants to the PAC should demonstrate integrity, credibility, trustworthiness, active participation, strong interpersonal skills, and the willingness to address issues proactively. Volunteer positions are available for representatives with diverse backgrounds and unique perspectives from throughout the county. Compared with other County boards and commissions, the time commitment for the PAC is minimal. Serving on the PAC doesn’t restrict volunteers from serving on other boards and commissions or in other volunteer capacities. Appointments are for a term of three years and limited to two consecutive terms. During the PAC’s next meeting, the committee will be evaluating and selecting the focus of upcoming audits.

Tourism Promotion Area Advisory Board

The primary goal of the Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) is to increase overnight stays in Snohomish County. The TPA provides marketing and promotion support to new ideas and events that bring loads of life and overnight lodging to the County through a grant process. The Advisory Board is comprised of 14 members: five lodging members, one from each of the five Snohomish County Council districts; four at-large lodging members; and five non-lodging members, one from each of the five districts. Members of the Advisory Board may serve up to three consecutive, three-year terms.

This program is open to applications from public, nonprofit or private entities with a demonstrated ability to accomplish the proposed project. The Advisory Board meets the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings are currently being held virtually via Zoom. You can visit the Snohomish County Tourism Promotion Area webpage for more information.

There are currently five vacancies on the TPA Board: one lodging vacancy for County Council district 5, two positions (lodging and non-lodging) for County Council district 4, and two “at-large” or countywide lodging positions. All positions are open until filled.

Please review the information on the TPA webpage and consider attending a monthly Tourism Promotion Area meeting. To apply for an opening on the TPA Board, please go to the Snohomish County Boards and Commissions webpage and click the “Current Boards and Commissions” link. Once there, please follow the instructions to apply and then submit your application.
