ARLINGTON, Wash, April 25, 2023—This morning, Arlington Mayor Barb Tolbert announced she will seek re-election in 2023. Mayor Tolbert was first elected in 2012 and has successfully led the City of Arlington on several key initiatives including:

• Implementing the law enforcement-embedded social worker program to provide social services to those in need while holding criminals accountable – the program has graduated 144 individuals since 2018
• Supporting our law enforcement locally and statewide through the Mayors & Business Leaders for Public Safety workgroup – in 2022, the city hired nine new police officers
• Supporting local businesses through the COVID-19 pandemic with city grants
• Securing funding for widening Highway 531 (172^nd Street) to relieve traffic congestion

Mayor Tolbert’s tenure has focused on building strong partnerships to benefit the City of Arlington and its residents. When Mayor Tolbert first took office in 2012, Arlington was economically isolated and did not have strong relationships with community partners or funding sources. Since then, Mayor Tolbert has worked hard with city staff to put Arlington on the map at the regional and statewide level. These partnerships with state and federal representatives have been critical to securing key investments in infrastructure and other projects.

“I’ve had the pleasure of leading the city over the past 12 years in making significant improvements in infrastructure, public safety, and ensuring a great quality of life in Arlington,” said Mayor Tolbert. “I want to continue building on these successes by keeping Arlington family-friendly and supporting our local businesses.”
