EVERETT, Wash., July 2, 2023 – The YMCA of Snohomish County resumed hosting its Volunteers of the Year Awards Breakfast on Wednesday, June 14. This annual celebration returns for the first time post-pandemic. Volunteers from all six branches, the Board of Trustees, and the Youth Development Board were honored and recognized for their service to the Y.

“The YMCA of Snohomish County is a volunteer-driven organization,” said Peyton Tune, President and CEO, YMCA of Snohomish County. “We could not thrive without the dedication of our community of volunteers. It’s a privilege to honor them for the good work they do every day.”

Volunteers were recognized in four categories: program, policy, youth, and philanthropy. The recipients serve in different capacities across the county, but they all embody leadership, commitment, and a heart for the Y and the community it supports. Award recipients are:

Program Volunteers of the Year: Betsy Case (Everett), Will Beck (Marysville), Nikki Gale (Mill Creek), Greg Piland (Monroe/Sky Valley), Jim Russell (Mukilteo, Shawn Hopkins (Stanwood-Camano), Nate Nehring (Trustees)

Policy Volunteers of the Year: Jon Stewart (Everett), Emily Wicks (Marysville), Shawnti Johnson (Mill Creek), Becky Hasart (Monroe/Sky Valley), Jen Castleberry (Mukilteo), Cameron Brown (Stanwood-Camano), Craig Connell (Trustees), Cyrus O’Bryant (Youth Development)

Youth Volunteers of the Year: Victoria Lopez (Everett), Cheyenne Markel (Marysville), Kailyn Powers (Monroe/Sky Valley), Ana Marriott (Stanwood-Camano)

Philanthropy Volunteers of the Year: Amy Lewandowski (Everett), Al and Suzanne Taitingfong (Marysville), Pam Gallagher (Mill Creek), Cheri Larsen (Monroe/Sky Valley), Gretchen Reynolds (Mukilteo), Ted McCammant (Stanwood-Camano), Kristin Meadows (Trustees), Steve and Keri Myers (Youth Development)

In addition to recognizing these volunteers, the Y also honored the “Champions of Resiliency,” volunteers who were integral in helping the organization through the pandemic.

“From board members to youth sports coaches, Annual Campaign chairs to Big Brother and Big Sister mentors, we are so appreciative of our volunteers who dedicate their time and talent to strengthening our local community,” said Tune. “They lead, inspire and support our Y family, and me too!”
