Detectives reveal possible motive in murder of 23-year-old Lynnwood woman

LAS VEGAS—Las Vegas detectives believe Sakari Harnden, 19, wanted Marayna Rodgers, 23, of Lynnwood, dead because Rodgers was disclosing to “other people” that Harden “snitched” on her boyfriend who was arrested for a double murder in California. Harden’s boyfriend is currently in custody in San Joaquin County jail.

Police reports reveal that both Harnden and Rodgers were alleged sex workers. Harnden used her ex-boyfriend, former NBA G-league player Chance Comanche, 27, of Los Angeles, as a decoy to falsely lure Rodgers into a “double date” to perform sex acts for $1,000 the night/early morning of her murder on December 6, 2023. Comanche played earlier that evening at The Dollar Loan Center in Henderson. He was fired from his team, the Stockton Kings, shortly after his arrest on December 15.

On Tuesday, January 2, Comanche, in shackles, made his initial court appearance at Clark County Justice Court where Judge Diana Sullivan formally read him the charges of open murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and first-degree kidnapping. Defense attorney, Gary Guymon, did not seek bail and shared after the hearing that his client intends to plead not guilty. Comanche’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 8, 2024.

Harnden appeared before the judge on Wednesday and was formally charged with open murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and first-degree kidnapping. Her bail is set at $500,000 and is represented by a Clark County public defender. According to the jail roster, she was also charged with theft of a Rolex watch. Currently her next appearance is scheduled for February 14, but that is expected to change to February 8.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson intends to combine the cases against both Comanche and Harnden to try them together as co-defendants.

Court records reveal that the murder plot unfolded on December 1 over the instant messaging app Telegram, just days before Rodgers’ murder.

Comanche confessed that he offered a friend $3,000 to kill Rodgers but that plan fell through. Parked in a cul-de-sac near Horizon Ridge Parkway and Gibson Road in Henderson, Comanche, who was in the back seat of the vehicle, strangled Rogers with an HDMI cord for approximately 10 seconds who was in the front passenger seat. Harnden then allegedly began choking Rodgers with her hands until she stopped moving. Rodgers’ hands were zip tied during her murder, according to Law Enforcement Today.

Their victim, Rodgers, who hailed from Lynnwood, had been reported missing since December 7. According to a press release by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Rodgers had made plans early that day to meet up with Harnden, who was to bring her “boyfriend” (Comanche) along—Rodgers had not been seen or heard from since. Detectives working on the case suspected foul play from early in the investigation and obtained evidence that led to the arrests of Harnden and Comanche for Rodgers’ kidnapping and disappearance.

Based on information obtained after the two suspects’ arrests, Detectives were able to locate remains in a desert near Henderson, Nevada. Henderson is about a 24-minute drive, or approximately 15 miles from the city of Las Vegas.

Marayna Rodgers worked as a medical assistant in Lynnwood. She had a boyfriend, two dogs, and was said to be compassionate, outgoing, and extremely close to her family and friends.
