LYNNWOOD—A female pedestrian, Frewoini Woldemariam, 41, was struck and killed on I-5 just south of 44th Avenue by a vehicle shortly after midnight on Monday, January 15.
“N5 44th Ave W (MP180) is fully blocked for a one car/pedestrian fatality collision. Northbound traffic is being diverted to 220th St SW,” Trooper Kelsey Harding posted on X.
According to the Washington State Patrol press memo, 911 calls came in around 11:55 p.m., Sunday evening, reporting a pedestrian “standing in lane 3 northbound I-5.” By 12:03 a.m., Monday morning, the person was unfortunately stuck by a Hyundai Venue SUV. When fire medics arrived, Woldemariam was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old Granite Falls woman, was transported to Swedish Edmonds hospital with minor injuries. No arrests were made and next of kin have been notified, Trooper Harding confirmed with the Lynnwood Times.
Washington State Patrol did close northbound I-5 between 44 Ave and 220th Street and diverted northbound I-5 traffic through 220th Street SW. I-5 northbound reopened around 6 a.m. on Monday.
