Washington is sixth in the list of the states most interested in gig work, according to new study 

Experts at JeffBet.com analyzed the search volume of various gig work related terms, including ‘become DoorDash driver’, ‘grocery delivery driver jobs’, and ‘work for Uber’. The search volumes for every term were combined in each state to determine the ranking.

Delaware takes the title of the state most interested in gig work, with an average monthly search volume of 445 per 100,000 people. Delaware witnessed the highest number of searches compared to the rest of the nation for several gig work companies, including Amazon Flex, Guru, and Gigwalk. 

Colorado places second, with an average of 418 monthly Google searches for every 100,000th person. The Centennial State received more searches for freelance writer jobs than any other state, with a search volume of 23 per 100,000 people. 

In third place is Arizona, which has 418 average monthly searches per 100,000 citizens. Arizona is most interested in data entry gig work, with this role receiving 59 searches for every 100,000th citizen in the state. 

Fourth in the ranking is Maryland, with an average monthly search volume of 406 per 100,000 residents. Maryland’s most in-demand gig work job is a virtual assistant, with this role receiving a search volume of 71 per 100,000 people. 

Georgia takes the fifth spot, taking a search volume of 399 for every 100,000th person. The state is most interested in working for Amazon Flex, DoorDash, and Upwork with volumes per 100,000 people of 21, 17, and 16, respectively. 

California and Washington are in joint sixth place, with both states receiving a total search volume of 383 for every 100,000th citizen. Washington’s most in-demand gig work company is Airbnb, with 23 searches per 100,000 residents, while California’s is Amazon Flex, with 26 searches for every 100,000th person. 

The seventh spot goes to Utah, which has an average monthly search volume of 382 for every 100,000th resident. Utah experienced the highest number of searches for DoorDash jobs compared to the rest of the states, with a search volume of 23 per 100,000 citizens. 

Taking the eighth spot is New Jersey, receiving an average search volume of 375 for every 100,000th person. New Jersey’s most popular roles within gig work are data entry, virtual assistant, and transcriptionist, with search volumes per 100,000 people of 61, 45, and 25, respectively. 

Following closely behind in ninth place is Nevada, taking a search volume of 374 per 100,000 residents. The Silver State has the second highest interest of all 50 states in working for Taskrabbit, a platform that connects users to people who provide services like cleaning and home repairs. 

Florida and Virginia are tied in tenth place, with 368 monthly searches on average per 100,000 people. Florida has more searches than any other state for jobs with Upwork, while Virginia’s most popular company to work for is Amazon Flex. 

The most popular gig work company to work for on a national level is Amazon Flex, with an overall search volume of 139,436. In addition to this, virtual assistant is the most popular role within gig work, which has a total search volume of 356,702.
