Parents charged with first-degree manslaughter of 1-year-old daughter

GRANITE FALLS—The Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office have filed manslaughter charges against the parents for the December 4, 2021, fatal shooting of their then 11-month-old daughter.

The 32-year-old father was charged with first-degree manslaughter w/firearm DV and unsafe storage of a firearm in the first degree DV. The girl’s mother, 26, was charged with first-degree manslaughter w/firearm DV, unlawful possession of a firearm first-degree, and unsafe storage of a firearm in the first degree DV. The arraignment will be on Tuesday, February 6.

At approximately 5:50 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2021, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 8600 block of SR-92 in Granite Falls.

Medics arrived on scene first and attempted lifesaving measures on an 11-month-old girl, who suffered a gunshot wound.  She was pronounced dead on scene. The little girl’s parents who were present at the residence were interviewed by Major Crimes Unit (MCU) detectives and cooperated with the investigation. Detectives then returned to the residence on Sunday, December 5, to serve a search warrant, collect evidence.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit detectives referred the case to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in November 2022. On January 18, 2024, charges were filed on both parents who were home at the time of the shooting.

At this time, the parents have not been arrested for manslaughter in the death of their 11-month baby girl.
