SNOHOMISH COUNTY—The Snohomish County DUI and Target Zero Task Force will be conducting DUI Emphasis Patrols August 9, 10, and 11, 2024, in South Snohomish County.
Representatives from Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Lynnwood Police Department, Mountlake Terrace Police Department, Arlington Police Department, Edmonds Police Department, Marysville Police Department along with the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board will be doing high visibility patrols throughout the county. This event coincides with the Taste Edmonds festival.
The Washington State Patrol Mobile Impaired Driving Unit (MIDU) will be on hand to quickly process DUI drivers. The MIDU is a self-contained 36 foot motorhome that has been retrofitted as a mobile DUI processing center and incident command post. When requested, the MIDU travels across the state in support of law enforcement efforts during DUI emphasis patrols.
In Snohomish County, we are deeply concerned by the increase in impaired drivers on our county roadways and statewide. From 2021-2022, we saw a statewide increase of impairment related fatalities by 7.2% and serious injury crashes by over 17%. We know most people make the right decision and choose to have a completely sober driver. We encourage those celebrating this weekend to utilize sober designated drivers, taxis and ride share services if they plan to party.
Patrols will be looking for drivers impaired by alcohol, legal marijuana, or other illegal drugs. Target Zero is the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission’s plan for zero traffic related deaths and serious injuries by 2030. More information can be found on our regional website www.SnoCoTargetZero.org and www.targetzero.com
Patrol updates will be posted, as available, on the Snohomish County DUI & Target Zero Facebook page.
