Driver dead after driving into Lynnwood apartment complex Tuesday morning

LYNNWOOD—A driver is dead after driving his SUV into the first floor of the Whispering Cedars Apartment complex in Lynnwood Tuesday morning. According to the Lynnwood Police Department, who are handling the investigation, no one in the building was injured.

The incident took place around 12:35 a.m. on the 6500 block of 208th street when the driver, believed to be a man in his late 20’s or early 30’s, veered off the road and ran into the building. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

208th is on a hill approximately 20-feet above the apartment complex, leading up to Highway 99. There is a stop sign on 66th facing 208th just right before where the vehicle struck the complex. There are no guardrails on this road.

According to South County Fire the driver had no passengers in his vehicle at the time. 

South County Fire Fighters with the Technical Rescue Team responded and ensured that the building was safe and that there were no other injuries to tenants inside, Christie Veley, Communications Director for South County informed the Lynnwood Times.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the Lynnwood Police Department. 

By the time Lynnwood Times Reporters arrived on scene the vehicle had already been towed, the complex boarded up, and the investigation site taped off. 

Whispering Cedars is the same apartment complex where a parking lot fire set nine cars ablaze in August, 2023, resulting in $200,000 in damages.
