EVERETT—Snohomish County Councilman Nate Nehring (R), representing District 1, was unanimously elected by his colleagues to serve as Council Chair during the body’s Administrative Session on January 7. Chair Nehring served as Chair in 2020 and Vice Chair in 2024. He will be joined by County Councilwoman Megan Dunn (D), representing District 2, who was also unanimously elected by her colleagues to serve as Vice Chair. Vice Chair Dunn served as Chair in 2022 and Vice Chair in 2021.
“I am truly honored that my colleagues have elected me as Chair of the County Council,” said Chair Nate Nehring. “I look forward to collaborating with my fellow councilmembers, the County Executive, and other elected officials to serve the residents of Snohomish County.”
Nehring was nominated by Dunn which was seconded by former County Chair Jared Mead (D). Chair Nehring then nominated Dunn which was also seconded by Mead for the Vice Chair position.
The Council Chair presides over Council proceedings and provides leadership and direction to Council staff and administrative functions. The Council Vice-Chair serves as part of the leadership team and presides over Council proceedings in the absence of the Chair. This is the fourth time in the last 11 years that both political parties are represented in County Council leadership.
“I am honored to have been unanimously selected as Vice Chair of the County Council for 2025,” said Councilmember Megan Dunn. “I am excited to continue serving the community in a leadership capacity and remain committed to transparency and fostering public trust.”
Council leadership is voted on and decided at the first council meeting of each new year. The leadership team serves for a one-year term.
“I’m very proud we elected another bipartisan leadership team this year,” added Councilmember Jared Mead. “Congratulations to Chair Nehring and Vice-Chair Dunn on their unanimous vote. The county council is in good hands.”
