SEATTLE—Washington State Democrats Chair Shasti Conrad has been appointed Associate Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) by Chair Ken Martin on Monday, March 3. She will be joining U.S. Representative Joyce Beatty (OH-03) and Labor Caucus Chair Stuart Appelbaum in the role.

“The DNC is thrilled to announce a new slate of leaders whose depth and breadth of experience will support the Democratic Party in holding the Trump administration accountable and fighting for working families. At such a critical moment, we are excited to have experienced, aggressive operatives who are ready to roll up their sleeves and defend Democratic values up and down the ballot,” wrote DNC Chair Ken Martin in a statement.
Conrad is the first woman of color and youngest person to serve as Chair of the Washington State Democrats. Prior to leading the Washington Democrats she served as a staffer and consultant on four presidential campaigns and worked in the Obama White House’s Office of Public Engagement and for President Obama’s Senior Advisor.
“I am honored and proud to be named Associate Chair of the Democratic National Committee alongside U.S. Representative Joyce Beatty and Labor Caucus Chair Stuart Applebaum. I thank our Chair, Ken Martin, for his faith in me and his recognition of the amazing work our state parties do to elect Democrats up and down the ballot,” Conrad wrote in a statement. “Our party has an enormous responsibility to provide oversight and accountability to the lawless Trump-Musk Administration. Through our commitment to authentic candidates, popular economic policies, and year-round organizing, Washington state was the only state that did not shift towards the Republicans in 2024. I look forward to using my new role as DNC Associate Chair to help the Democratic Party become more like Washington state and less like Washington, D.C.”
As Chair, Conrad raised nearly $9 million in her first 2-year term which she attributes to her year-round communications and field organizing that helped Washington Democrats win up and down the ballot.
The Washington State Democratic Party attribute Conrad’s leadership to Washington withstanding the red shift during the 2024 election.
Democrats suffered major losses up and down the ballot in the 2024 elections as Trump recaptured the White House and Republicans flipped the Senate and held onto its majority in the House.
Oregon, with similar demographics and values as Washington state, shifted 2 points towards President-elect Donald J Trump. States like Massachusetts and Vermont, which are whiter and more highly educated than Washington’s electorate, she shared, still moved 8 and 3 points, respectively, towards the Republican ticket.

Conrad was named as one of the “40 Under 40” by the American Association of Political Consultants, and one of the most influential people in Seattle Politics by Seattle Met Magazine
Conrad graduated from Seattle University and received her Masters in Public Affairs from Princeton. She was adopted from Calcutta, India, and raised by a single mother in the Portland area.
Conrad announced her candidacy to run for DNC Vice Chair back in December, 2024, believing the DNC needed a new generation of leadership. She also said that she believes Washington State has the potential to be a political blueprint to turn the rest of the country blue.
In addition to the three new Associate Chairs, the DNC named Roger Lau as Executive Director of the DNC, Libby Schneider as Deputy Executive Director, and Jessica Wright as Deputy Executive Director and Chief of Staff to the Chair.
