Public Safety and Fiscal Responsibility at the Forefront of Schmalz’s Campaign

As a dedicated public servant, Schmalz’s top priorities as Mayor will be public safety and fiscal responsibility.

“Public safety is the number one priority. We must ensure our Police and Fire Departments have the resources they need to keep residents and businesses safe,” said Schmalz. “Our second priority is fiscal responsibility. Mukilteo is facing record deficits, and we need new leadership to put our city on a path to solid financial health.”

Schmalz emphasized the need for a balanced budget where projected revenues align with expenditures.

“The financial situation of our city is dire. It’s crucial that we fix the current budget and present a realistic, balanced budget that reflects our community’s needs, without raising taxes on our residents,” he added.

Community Leadership and Volunteerism

Schmalz has been deeply involved in the Mukilteo community, not only in his role as a councilmember but also through his active participation in local events. He has led several key events, including the Mukilteo Waterfront Art Festival, Mukilteo Holiday Art Mart, Mukilteo Bluegrass and Folk Festival, Open Mic Night at The Red Cup, and Waterfront Wednesdays.

“The residents of Mukilteo are the backbone of our community, and too many times, their voices have been ignored,” Schmalz said. “As Mayor, I will continue to work alongside our residents to solve their issues and ensure that their concerns are heard and acted upon.”

A Proven Record of Achievements

During his time on the City Council, Schmalz has been a tireless advocate for the community, working to solve local issues and improve the quality of life for all residents.

His notable achievements include:

  • Initiating free parking for residents on Mukilteo’s waterfront
  • Securing funding and interim access to Mukilteo’s Central Waterfront Park
  • Securing funding for trail maintenance in Big and Japanese Gulches
  • Voted to fund the construction of a new dog park
  • Saving Mukilteo taxpayers thousands of dollars by negotiating the purchase price of
    Japanese Gulch
  • Supporting city funding for the Boys and Girls Club construction
  • Initiating and securing funding for water rescue equipment for the Fire Department

“I’ve worked hard as a councilmember to improve Mukilteo, and as Mayor, I will bring the same commitment and determination to tackle our city’s most urgent issues,” said Schmalz. “Mukilteo deserves a leader who listens, who works hard to solve problems, and who will fight for the future of our community.

    1. As per the council approved Mukilteo Waterfront Master plan. Funny how $200-$300K was allocated for the current Mayor’s art project instead at Lighthouse Park that wasn’t part of the public process. You should take a walk down there and check out the green on the signs at the Central Waterfront park (next to the Ferry Terminal) and see how it compares the gravel park now. It’s pretty funny to see the contrast. But that’s how we seem to roll in Mukilteo.

      1. Enjoy voting for a loser. Some schmuck salesman from the Northeast has no idea what Mukilteo needs.
