Tageant grew up in Lake Stevens and graduated from Lake Stevens High School in 1990. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after where he fought in the Persian Gulf War.

Upon being successfully discharged from the military, Tageant attended college at Washington State University before moving back to Lake Stevens. Those who knew him best said he was an avid Cougar’s fan for life. He was also a fan of the Seattle Seahawks.

Tageant founded his own companies, Task Properties and Impact Property Management, respectively, which were both based in Lake Stevens and managed Condominium Associations, Homeowner Associations, residential properties and commercial properties throughout Snohomish and King counties. Through his businesses he successfully employed nearly 20 at a time, continually creating jobs for his city.

Separate to his business, and time served on City Council, Tageant was extremely active in his community volunteering with the Lake Stevens Kiwanis, the Greater Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce, and the American Legion. His friends said he always believed it was important to give back to the community where he lived and worked.

Those who knew him best said it was all about Lake Stevens for him. He never served in an elected capacity in any other city nor did he volunteer his time outside of where he lived and worked.

While serving on Lake Stevens City Council Tageant was the Council liaison to the Lake Stevens School Board, the Chamber of Commerce, and Lake Stevens Aquafest. He served on the Lake Stevens City Council for nearly 16 years.

Tageant loved to boat, play cribbage, and entertain, friends of his on social media said. He was also an avid Pickleball player — even took gold in the USSP National Pickleball Championship in the 50+ category in 2024 — and golfer.

Tageant and his wife Marcella were just married last month. The two loved to travel together. He intentionally did not seek reelection this year because he was looking forward to retirement and, with it, enjoying more traveling and spending time with his wife.

Though the cause of his death has not been made public his friends and family said it was unexpected.
