Providence Hospital, Be Smart, and the Snohomish County Health Department will be hosting a free gun safety webinar on Tuesday, June 10, to educate the public on proper gun use, storage, and safety.
The one-hour webinar will be held remotely from 7 to 8 p.m. and feature speakers Peter Maier, Epidemiologist, Carlie Deatherage, Health Communities Specialist, and Juliet Scarpa, Be SMART WA Lead.

Be SMART (which stands for Secure, Model, Ask, Recognize, Tell) is a public education campaign that focuses on preventing child gun injuries and death by promoting responsible gun storage and ownership. Our goal is to create safer environments for children and our community by fostering open conversations and sharing practical safety practices and resources.
The nonprofit was launched in 2015 to promote responsible gun ownership in order to reduce child gun deaths.
“Whether you’re a gun owner, or you know someone who owns a gun, there is a role for everyone in the conversation around secure gun storage,” the organization said.
Be SMART is a framework that parents, caretakers, and community leaders can follow to help keep their communities safe. Ultimately, you can help prevent kids from accessing firearms by storing them securely, and encouraging others to do the same. Because children deserve to feel safe, no matter where they are.
The organization has 353 gun safety initiatives, 58 state-wide and 295 city/region, nationally. Hundreds of entities across the United States use Be SMART to bring the life-saving message about secure firearm storage to their states, cities, and local communities.
