SNOHOMISH COUNTY—The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) concluded its investigation into a police use-of-force incident that occurred last September, resulting in the death of a 19-year-old wanted for a felony assault case.
On September 15, 2024, around 2:45 p.m., Officers working with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting multiple gunshots fired. When they arrived, on the 1900 block of 200th Street Northeast in Arlington, they found a 42-year-old woman injured with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives working with the Major Crimes Unit learned that there had been a verbal altercation between the deceased woman and a 19-year-old man, who fled the scene of the crime in a vehicle.
Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Officers pursued the suspect in a vehicular pursuit, from Arlington—the scene of the crime—to Lake Stevens where they initiated a precision immobilization technique (PIT) on Highway 9 near 64th Street, to stop the suspect’s vehicle.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle, officials said, resulting in his death shortly after despite life-saving efforts by law enforcement officers.
Given the nature of the incident SMART began an investigation on the law enforcement agency’s use-of-force to apprehend the suspect. Despite that investigation concluding last Thursday, on June 5, Mandy Kruger, Public Information Officer for SMART did not release any findings.
The case has now been passed on to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office for review, Kruger said, and has now been considered closed.
