MONROEGalaxy Theatres Monroe is excited to announce the arrival of an ‘ant-tastic’ art installation at the theater located at One Galaxy Way in Monroe, Washington. On Saturday, June 21, from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m., the theater will unveil seven giant steel ant sculptures, each one seven feet tall and hand-painted by local groups and community members, to be installed on the theater’s exterior later this year.

The free, family-friendly event will include:

  • Unveiling ceremony of the ants, each with its own name and story
  • Games, an ant-maze, raffles, and giveaways
  • Live DJ and fun from KRKO Radio and their mascot KroKO
  • Local food trucks serving up great eats: Avery’s Chicken & Waffles, Hugs & Mini Donuts, and K&K Treats
  • Community partners like the Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, and local Scouts will host tables and share info about their programs
  • Opportunities to support PAWS Wildlife Center and Sky Valley Food Bank by bringing donations of cereal boxes

The ant sculptures were originally installed on the exterior of the Galaxy Theatres in Tulare, CA, where they remained a local landmark for nearly a decade. Travelers and locals alike would recognize Tulare and the theater when driving by the installation.

“Galaxy is built on the magic of storytelling and shared experiences. We’re incredibly proud to introduce the Seven Ants to the Monroe community,” said Frank Rimkus, CEO of Galaxy Theatres. “These sculptures were a cherished part of our Tulare location for nearly a decade, and we’re thrilled to see them begin a new chapter here in Monroe. “

Ahead of the ants’ arrival, Galaxy Theatres Monroe is offering free screenings of ANTZ, MONSTERS VS. ALIENS, and THE ANT BULLY from June 18 to 24. Tickets may be reserved on the theater’s website. An Ant-Tastic Bites special including fries, chicken strips, pretzel bites, and more will also be available.

Recently upgraded facilities include new, high quality powered leather recliners in two screens, an upgraded 64 channel fully immersive Dolby Atmos Surround Sound System, a select number of D-BOX immersive motion technology seats, new digital poster cases, state-of-the-art ticket check in podiums, redesigned Guest Services desk, and upgraded signage throughout the facility.

“What makes this project so special is the way local organizations have brought their creativity and heart to personalize each Ant, making them a true reflection of Snohomish County,” said Rimkus. “We’re ‘ant-icipating’ they’ll soon become a treasured landmark in the community. We can’t think of a better symbol than our beloved ants, which will now stand as an ongoing tribute to those organizations and will be part of Monroe’s story for many years to come.”
