SNOHOMISH COUNTY—On July 4th and 5th, South County firefighters responded to two significant fires within a 24-hour period. The cause of both fires is under investigation, with fireworks as a possible factor.
On July 5, a fire damaged two homes north of Lake Stickney in Everett. Firefighters arrived shortly after 1:30 p.m. to find both homes engulfed in flames. Over 30 firefighters took approximately 40 minutes to control the fire. All residents escaped safely, and one dog was rescued. One cat perished, and several pets are missing. No injuries were reported. Support 7 and American Red Cross volunteers are assisting 15 displaced residents.
On July 4, a fire at an apartment complex in the 4500 block of 164th St SW in Lynnwood destroyed a carport and four vehicles, with eight additional vehicles damaged. Firefighters responded around 11 p.m. to what was initially reported as a dumpster fire and prevented the fire from spreading to residential buildings. No injuries were reported.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating both incidents and has not ruled out fireworks as a potential cause.
