Gesaโ€™s Local Heroes Grant Program provides direct funding to organizations that support any of the Gesaโ€™s outlined Local Heroes categories, including firefighters, law enforcement, educators, healthcare workers, and Veterans. This yearโ€™s recipients were selected by the Gesa Community Foundation selection committee.

Of the 52 organizations recognized through the Local Heroes Grant Program this year, 15 grants were awarded to Veteran organizations, 14 supported educators, while firefighters and healthcare workers each received nine. Another five grants were provided to local law enforcement. The full list of this yearโ€™s recipients, who received a combined $528,000 in grants, can be found at www.gesa.com/local-heroes-grant-winners/.

Lynnwood-based Support 7 and the Everett Police Department were two of the 52 awardees for 2025.

โ€œEvery year, Iโ€™m blown away by the applications we receive from Local Heroes organizations and the extraordinary work they are doing,โ€ said Amber Merrill, Community Relations Manager at Gesa Credit Union. โ€œThrough this program, weโ€™re proud to support the people and organizations who protect, educate, and uplift our communities every single day. Itโ€™s an honor to stand alongside this yearโ€™s recipients and help them further their impact.โ€

Some of the projects this yearโ€™s funding will help support include replacing firefighter gear such as helmets and rescue equipment, launching new extracurricular programs for local schools, and expanding training and tools for healthcare professionals. Additionally, several law enforcement agencies are enhancing safety equipment, and Veteran organizations are expanding education and skills programs that support those who have served.

This program is made possible through Gesaโ€™s Affinity Debit Card Program. With every swipe of a Local Heroes co-branded Affinity Debit Card, members earn funds designated for grants in that cardโ€™s Local Heroes category. Funds accumulate over the course of a year and are disbursed annually by the Gesa Community Foundation.
