EVERETT—A Snohomish County jury found 58-year-old Arlington man Mark Downey guilty on April 8, 2026, of Murder in the Second Degree with a deadly weapon in connection with the 2024 death of 37-year-old Katie McQueen of Mariposa, California.

On August 20, 2024, deputies responded to reports of a suspicious death in the 11800 block of 84th St NE. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, a deceased 37-year-old female, at the scene. Due to the suspicious nature of the incident, Major Crime Unit (MCU) detectives were requested to respond and take over the investigation.
Following a months-long investigation, detectives worked in coordination with the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab, which obtained a positive DNA match from evidence recovered at the scene. The DNA was linked to Downey, who was not known to the victim.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives interviewed Downey and learned an altercation occurred between Downey and the victim, which resulted in Downey stabbing the victim in the neck. Downey ultimately confessed to the murder of the victim, and the evidence developed led to Downey’s arrest in November 2024 on probable cause for Second Degree murder.
After deliberation, a jury returned a guilty verdict on April 8, 2026, finding Downey responsible for Murder in the Second Degree with a deadly weapon.
Downey is scheduled to be sentenced on June 4, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in Snohomish County Superior Court.
