MARYSVILLE—A 72-year-old man was killed yesterday after the driver lost control of her vehicle and slid into oncoming traffic on State Route 9, striking a semitruck northeast of Marysville Wednesday, April 15.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the 72-year-old Cheryl driver from Lake Stevens was traveling in her 2006 Toyota Carolla southbound on SR9 around 12:00 p.m. yesterday when she lost control of her vehicle and slid into the northbound lane, where she was struck by an oncoming semitruck.
Her passenger, identified as 72-year-old Stanley Fouts from Lake Stevens, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to Providence Medical Center for injuries.
The 2006 Carolla was totaled.
The driver of the semitruck, a 40-year-old man from Stanwood, was not injured but there was noticeable damage to his truck.
All three of the involved parties were wearing their seatbelts, the WSP reported, and no drugs or alcohol were suspected.
The cause of the collision was determined to be “Speeds too fast for conditions.”
