MONROE—Snohomish County PUD invites community members to Hydropower Appreciation Day at the Woods Creek Sustainability Center in Monroe, Wash., on May 15 and 16 from 9 a.m. to noon for a behind-the-scenes look at how the utility turns water into clean, renewable electricity.
The Woods Creek Sustainability Center includes a run-of-the-river hydroelectric project, food forest, and stunning Coho Falls. This site is typically closed to the public except for educational school trips. This once-a-year event gives any community member the opportunity to visit. Guests can also explore the PUD’s food forest, see the site’s weir and powerhouse, and hear about steps the utility takes to support fish habitat and protect river health.
“We’re excited to welcome the community back to the Woods Creek Sustainability Center for the fourth year so they can see firsthand how we generate power in a way that’s mindful of the river and the fish that rely on it,” said Jason Zyskowski, Chief Energy Resource Officer. “The tour offers a unique opportunity to learn about hydropower, native plants that support pollinators and wildlife, and view a beautiful waterfall.”
Guided tours run about 75 minutes and will be offered throughout the morning on both days. Admission is free, but space is limited, and registration is required due to parking constraints.
