SNOHOMISH—A massive, 100-yards-long fire on the train trestle bridge near Snohomish disrupted commuters, alarmed witnesses, and injured one early Tuesday during rush hour.

Approximately 50 firefighters working with the Snohomish County Fire District 4 responded to the fire around 5:40 a.m. Tuesday morning, May 12.
According to the incident report, obtained by the Lynnwood Times, the fire district was first dispatched as a single unit response at 05:19 to an unknown fire. Dispatch then upgraded it to a brush fire.

Crews upgraded the response to a commercial response upon heavy smoke seen and report of the railroad trestle on fire. Access to the site was difficult as this is a non-roaded area, the report states.
Four water tenders supported the operations as well as an aerial attack via a ladder truck and handlines. Crews attacked the fire from two different locations.
The massive fire stretched about 100 yards in length, Sean Withero, Battalion Chief for Snohomish County Fire District 4 informed the Lynnwood Times, and was “very visible.”
Nearby Airport Way was closed for about an hour-and-a-half to allow fire fighters to pull out water supply into the area. According to the fire district the fire was under control within just 40 minutes after responding.

There were no fire fighter injuries, but one civilian was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire is undetermined as this time and is currently under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshall’s Office.
Airport Way was reopened around 7 a.m.
