Project Background:

The City of Marysville, in collaboration with the City of Lake Stevens, is developing a 4.7-mile-long paved trail from the south end of the existing Bayview Trail at 64th Street NE (SR 528) in Marysville to 8th Street NE in Lake Stevens. The proposed trail follows multiple north-south utility easements and city streets within the cities of Marysville and Lake Stevens, as well as unincorporated Snohomish County, with the goal of increasing recreational opportunities and transportation options by connecting to non-motorized networks in each community.

Timeline

2024: The cities jointly conducted a Maptionnaire public survey and an in-person open house that helped inform the completion of 30% design. The phase leading up through 30% design was funded by a $504,700 grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce.

2025: In January, the City of Lake Stevens independently opened a trail segment between 20th and 12th Streets SE to the south of this joint project; Lake Stevens intends to complete the next segment between 12th and 8th Streets this year.

The joint project from 8th Street in Lake Stevens to SR 528 in Marysville is now ready for the next design phase, including the alignment of specific portions of the trail. The cities are pursuing state funding to complete design and begin construction.

When finished, the Bayview Trail Connector will allow walkers and cyclists to enjoy a paved trail from Lake Stevens through southeast Marysville via the Bayview Trail connecting directly to the regional Centennial Trail.
