China to buy 200 Boeing jets, $17 Billion in US farm goods as Trump and Xi strike new trade deal

WASHINGTON, D.C.—President Donald J Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping reached agreements establishing new U.S.-China trade and investment institutions and securing major Chinese purchases of American aircraft, farm goods and beef during Trump’s visit to China last week — the first by a U.S. president since 2017.

Trump and Xi agreed to build a “constructive relationship of strategic stability” on the basis of fairness and reciprocity, the statement said. Trump will welcome Xi for a visit to Washington this fall, and the nations pledged to support each other as hosts of the G20 and APEC summits later this year.

On security issues, Trump and Xi agreed that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, called for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and stated that no country or organization can be allowed to charge tolls there. They also confirmed their shared goal of denuclearizing North Korea.

The centerpiece of the accord is the creation of two new government-to-government bodies: the U.S.-China Board of Trade, which will manage bilateral trade in non-sensitive goods, and the U.S.-China Board of Investment, a forum for discussing investment-related issues.

China also committed to addressing U.S. concerns about supply-chain shortages of rare earths and other critical minerals, including yttrium, scandium, neodymium and indium. Beijing agreed to ease prohibitions or restrictions on the sale of rare earth production and processing equipment and technologies.

In a boost for U.S. manufacturing, China approved an initial purchase of 200 American-made Boeing aircraft — the first such commitment since 2017. The White House said the deal will support high-paying, high-skilled jobs in the United States and provide Chinese airlines with American-made planes for decades.

On agriculture, China pledged to purchase at least $17 billion per year of U.S. farm products in 2026 (prorated), 2027 and 2028, in addition to soybean commitments made in October 2025. Beijing restored market access for U.S. beef by renewing expired listings for more than 400 American facilities, adding new listings and agreeing to work with U.S. regulators to lift all remaining suspensions. China also resumed imports of poultry from U.S. states that the Agriculture Department has determined are free of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

The White House described the package as delivering for American workers, farmers and industry by opening new markets and driving high-paying jobs. The agreements aim to enhance stability and confidence for businesses and consumers worldwide, the White House announced.
