BOTHELL — A Bothell police officer fired multiple rounds at a vehicle early Tuesday after a passenger pointed a firearm at the officer during a traffic stop at a 7-Eleven, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office announced. A 19-year-old male was wounded and is in stable condition.

The incident began just after 12:20 a.m. in the 20800 block of Bothell-Everett Highway when a Bothell officer spotted a vehicle make an illegal U-turn, according to Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART), which is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The vehicle pulled into the 7-Eleven parking lot in the Thrasher’s Corner area. As the officer approached, the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Another occupant slid into the driver’s seat.
A passenger in the vehicle then pointed a gun at the officer, who fired several shots toward the vehicle. The driver then reversed the vehicle, ramming it into the officer’s patrol car before speeding away. The officer was not injured.
About an hour later, the same vehicle arrived at St. Anne Hospital in Burien, where the 19-year-old was dropped off with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he remains stable, authorities said.
Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Courtney O’Keefe confirmed police believe the man was struck by the officer’s gunfire.
The suspect vehicle was later found unoccupied in Burien and seized as evidence. The original driver and other passengers have not been located.
