SNOHOMISH — One person died Friday evening when an explosion destroyed a house in the City of Snohomish and left the structure too unstable for firefighters to enter, according to Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue (SRFR).

Fire units were dispatched to 3821 109th Ave. SE shortly after 7:23 p.m. following reports of a loud boom and a house fire, according to an incident report from SRFR. Engine B43 arrived first and found the single-family home heavily involved in flames, with debris from the garage door scattered across the roadway. Bystanders reported someone still inside.
SRFR crews began fire suppression but quickly determined the building was too unstable to enter. They switched to an exterior attack. A partial structural collapse occurred during the operation, yet firefighters extinguished the blaze. Search teams later recovered the victim’s body from the rubble. No other injuries were reported.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation. The cause of the fire and explosion remains undetermined.
