Raising Cane’s was founded in 1996 by Todd Graves near the North Gates of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Graves, who serves as founder, CEO, fry cook and cashier, built the company around a single focus after his original business plan for a chicken-finger-only restaurant received the lowest grade in his college class and was rejected by banks.

His tenacity paid off. Graves financed his first location through savings from work as a boilermaker and sockeye salmon fisherman in Alaska, naming the restaurant after his yellow Labrador retriever, Raising Cane. The chain has grown to 975 locations across 45 states and the District of Columbia with 45 locations in the Middle East—Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, and Qatar.
The company’s vision is to grow restaurants serving customers worldwide and to be known for craveable chicken finger meals, a great crew, cool work culture and active community involvement.
Raising Cane’s is known for its chicken finger meals, which feature the craveable chicken fingers paired with the signature Cane’s Sauce — rated the No. 1 most craveable sauce by Technomic — along with the fresh sides shown in the chain’s promotional materials.

The focused menu and hand-battered, cook-to-order preparation set the chicken fingers apart. Crew members hand-batter and cook premium chicken that has been marinated for 24 hours. All items are cooked to order with no heat lamps, microwaves or compromises, its website says. Fresh daily preparations include a secret-recipe Cane’s Sauce, crinkle-cut fries made from Grade-A potatoes, Texas Toast, coleslaw made with red and green cabbage, carrots and premium dressing, and beverages such as iced tea sweetened with 100% cane sugar or lemonade made from fresh-squeezed lemons.
Raising Cane’s maintains an active community involvement that supports more than 30,000 local organizations through fundraisers, education initiatives, efforts to feed the hungry and other causes close to local communities.
