LYNNWOOD—Over 100 attend an America 250 Pancake Breakfast on Friday, July 3rd, at Open Door Baptist Church (17014 44th Ave W, Lynnwood). The event was sponsored by Sno-King Chapter 82, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Heroes’ Café, City of Lynnwood, Lynnwood Chamber of Commerce, and Lynnwood Elks Lodge #2171.

“So, this is a great event,” Mayor George Hurst told the Lynnwood Times. “It’s a free breakfast for the community. I wanted to do something to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of our country, and this seemed to be a good way to do it.”

Attendees enjoyed stacks of fluffy pancakes smothered in butter and syrup, and sausage served in a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere. Raising Cane also brought some America 250 swag for attendees.

“I would just say it’s a blessing to celebrate 250 years in America here in our city,” Pastor Jason Murphy for Open Door Baptist Church. “And it’s a great thing that the mayor had a vision for this and to be able to have the Vietnam vets come in and help serve and participate has been an added blessing. And so, we’re just honored and thankful that we’re able to host this and just be a small part of it and be a testimony in the community. We’re also thankful for the grace of God on our country and we continue to pray for that specifically and we’re thankful that not only do we have this place to meet and fellowship together but also the liberty we still enjoy in this country.”
On Sunday, he shared a message on the heritage of America to his congregation; that America may have her faults but is still the “greatest nation on God’s green earth.”

Hillary, Mayor Hurst’s daughter reached out to Open Door Baptist Church to host the event and was ecstatic they said yes.
“They said, yeah, let’s do it…so they’ve been super helpful,” Hillary said.
Mayor Hurst enjoyed Independence Day with his family and attended the annual Edmonds July 4th Parade.
