MILL CREEK — NBA Hall of Famer Gary Payton will serve as the featured host of the 15th Annual Rise Up Academy Celebrity Golf Classic on July 20 at Mill Creek Country Club.
In only two weeks, Rise Up Academy will welcome hundreds of golfers, business leaders, celebrities, and community champions to one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier charitable golf events.
The event, presented by Beacon Plumbing and supported by Ameriprise Financial with Fremont Social as cart sponsor, will bring together golfers, business leaders, celebrities and community members. Organizers said team spots are nearly sold out and sponsorship opportunities are limited.
Payton, a Seattle basketball legend known as “The Glove,” is a nine-time NBA All-Star, NBA champion and the only point guard to win the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award. He remains one of the city’s most prominent sports figures and community leaders.
The tournament will honor several individuals who died in the past year, including former host and NFL Hall of Famer Kenny Easley, Charlie Young, Charles Biggers and NBA Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens.
A comedy night kickoff event featuring nationally acclaimed comedian Ralph Porter is scheduled for July 19 at 5 p.m. at Mill Creek Country Club.
Golf registration begins at 8 a.m. July 20, with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. The weekend events are intended to support Rise Up Academy’s programs in education, mentorship, leadership development and opportunity for youth and families.
