EVERETT — Four Everett police officers were taken to a hospital with minor injuries Thursday morning after a man driving a stolen semitruck rammed multiple patrol cars while fleeing deputies through the Silver Lake neighborhood, EPD reports.
A 911 caller reported at 6:21 a.m. that a tractor-trailer had been stolen from the Safeway parking lot at 1715 Broadway Avenue, according to the Everett Police Department. Snohomish County sheriff’s deputies quickly spotted the truck entering southbound Interstate 5 and followed it as it exited at the 112th Street Park and Ride into Silver Lake.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop near Silver Lake Road and 116th Place Southeast. Police said the driver then began striking patrol vehicles in an effort to escape. An Everett officer who was in the area on an unrelated call was hit while still seated in his cruiser. Additional Everett officers responded as the truck continued to collide with law enforcement vehicles. Authorities later said as many as five patrol cars were struck.
The pursuit ended about 6:50 a.m. when the truck came to rest in the 1100 block of Andrew Sater Road, roughly eight miles from where it was taken. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene. He and a sheriff’s deputy were also taken to Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.
Police spokesman Officer Natalie Given told the Everett Post that investigators were still determining charges, “but they will be pretty significant.” The suspect was expected to be booked into Snohomish County Jail after medical evaluation. Everett police said the investigation remained active. Local reports identified the truck as carrying Columbia Distributing markings; the company operates a beverage distribution facility in Everett.
The stolen truck did not strike any occupied houses.
