MUKILTEO—A juvenile has been charged with assault after firing a BB gun from a moving vehicle at pedestrians walking on the sidewalk in Mukilteo last week.
Mukilteo Police received a 911 call from Mukilteo residents on Wednesday, September 16, around 11:30 a.m. reporting that someone was firing a BB gun at them, as they walked on the sidewalk near Harbour Pointe Boulevard Southwest and Harbour Reach Drive.
Officers were able to locate the register vehicle’s owner, using license plate number reported by the callers, and made contact. The juvenile suspect’s Orbeez/BB-style toy gun was confiscated by the Mukilteo Police Department and charges (Assault in the fourth degree) were later mailed to him without a booking.
A second juvenile was also involved in the incident, the Mukilteo PD said.
The incident was reported to the school district as well.
There were no reported injuries.
“We take allegations of violence extremely seriously. We’re going to show up, take things seriously and do our best to keep the community safe,” said Nathan Fabia with the Mukilteo Police Department.
According to Nationwide Children’s Hospital BB guns and pellet guns can cause severe, penetrating physical trauma, permanent disabilities, and even death.
Each year in the United States, approximately 30,000 persons with BB and pellet gun -related injuries are treated in hospital emergency departments, according to the CDC.
